Trip Overview

Your adventure begins at 8:00 AM with hotel pickup in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Then, travel through the beautiful Cambodian countryside, passing rice fields, traditional villages, and peaceful rural landscapes on your way to Phnom Kulen, located approximately 48 kilometers north of Siem Reap.

Along the journey, your experienced local guide will introduce you to the history and significance of this sacred mountain.

Discover the Birthplace of the Khmer Empire

Phnom Kulen holds a special place in Cambodian history. In 802 AD, King Jayavarman II proclaimed the independence of the Khmer Empire here, marking the beginning of the famous Angkor period.

Today, the mountain remains an important pilgrimage site for both Buddhists and Hindus. Visitors come from across Cambodia to admire its spiritual beauty and historical importance.

Explore Ancient Temples and River of a Thousand Lingas

As you explore the mountain, you’ll discover hidden temple ruins surrounded by lush jungle. One of the tour’s highlights is the famous River of a Thousand Lingas, where hundreds of sacred carvings are etched into the riverbed beneath flowing water.

Your guide will explain the religious meaning of these ancient carvings and their importance to the Khmer Empire.

Visit the Reclining Buddha and Sacred Pagoda

Continue your journey to the impressive reclining Buddha statue carved from natural sandstone. Then, visit the nearby Buddhist pagoda, where monks and local pilgrims gather to pray throughout the year.

These sacred sites offer a fascinating insight into Cambodia’s spiritual traditions and religious heritage.

Relax at Kulen Waterfall

After exploring the historical sites, cool off at the spectacular Kulen Waterfall. Enjoy the refreshing natural pools, relax beneath the cascading water, or simply admire the peaceful surroundings of Phnom Kulen National Park.

This is the perfect opportunity to unwind and capture memorable photographs of Cambodia’s natural beauty.

Learn About Phnom Kulen’s History

Besides its spiritual significance, Phnom Kulen also served as an important sandstone quarry during the Angkor period. Many of the stone blocks used to construct Angkor Wat and other magnificent temples originated from this mountain.

Later, Phnom Kulen became one of the Khmer Rouge’s final strongholds during the late 1970s, making it an important historical landmark in modern Cambodia.

Enjoy a Traditional Cambodian Lunch

Following your exploration, relax with a delicious Cambodian lunch at a local restaurant before beginning the comfortable return journey to Siem Reap.

Return to Siem Reap

Finally, after an unforgettable day exploring Cambodia’s sacred mountain, ancient history, and stunning natural landscapes, you’ll return to your hotel in Siem Reap during the afternoon.
